A Reluctant Decision

This decision was a long time coming. I originally started Virtually Vegan Mama as a place I could post recipes I created to build a family cook book and keep me motivated to stay healthy and fit. I was up and running with this little blog hard. I loved it and I loved the creative outlet it gave me. I am an Elementary School Teacher who is now a Stay-home Mom. My husband and I made a joint decision for me to stay home to raise our kids. This blog gave me the ability to create and feel like I was accomplishing something outside of just being a “Mom”. It really made me feel great every time I hit that “publish” button. =)

I enjoyed the community aspect of blogging too, it was fun connecting with like-minded people. I loved being inspired by other bloggers and I always gave credit where credit was due. I have seen a major decline in the blogging community and the social media aspect is not worth me wasting my time anymore. People can be very cruel and/or unethical and I don’t need to subject myself to that kind of backlash or aggravation anymore. Don’t get me wrong, there are more “good” peeps out there than “bad”, but I just don’t have it in me anymore to continue blogging. There are also so many wonderful cook book authors and blogs I love with wonderful recipes, I can just cook my way through that and be perfectly happy. =) I know I will still create my family cook book, but it will be shared in my home, with my family and friends.

I appreciate all the wonderful support of everyone that has come by to visit or to tell me how much they loved one of my recipes. I will keep Virtually Vegan Mama up for some time so go ahead and print out your favorite recipes before I shut it down. Some of my recipes can be found at One Green Plantet and Vegkitchen so you can find them there. I will try to find a website where I can transfer my recipes so they can stay there permanently so people can still enjoy them. If anyone knows of a good place, please let me know. I’m not going to pay to host the site if I’m not going to use it. ;)

I have a couple of products that need to be reviewed and a book giveaway, so I will be posting those in the next few weeks. Plus one more amazing recipe my husband and I have dreamed of making to share with you all. It will be an amazing send-off!

Once again, thanks to all my readers for all your support, but it’s time for me to move on. =)

XOXO,

Jen a.k.a The Virtually Vegan Mama =)

Thanks Angie and you know some of the reasons this is ending ;) We will have so much time to eat great vegan food together…you will have to be one of recipes testers for that cook book someday ;)

      Love ya!

Jen – I feel like we are saying hello and goodbye all at the same time! But I also “get” a lot of the things that you talk about above. I have been wavering back and forth for many months now with blogging, one foot in and one foot out. I’ve slowed down a lot – I don’t comment or read half of what I used to…. I respect those that go at it hard and I equally respect those that go at it for a season. I wish you all the best – and I will be glad to nose around a little at your recipes before you completely shut down .

    All the best – Ilene

The best thing about the last few months of blogging was finding SITS and your blog through Tamara. The bloggers on SITS get it and I loved building a few new connections. If you need some suggestions for which recipes to try let me know, I know which one’s are the best ;) I have to figure out where to put them so people can access them once I stop hosting here. I will still be a regular visitor on your blog =)

      XOXO

As others have said, I’m happy for you but sad for us. I was so glad to have found your site. Your recipes were some of the few vegan recipes my kids would try and enjoy. If you need a recipe tester for your friends & family cookbook, keep me in mind!

    • Jennifer says:

Thanks Karen and I definitely will keep you in mind! =) What were your kids favorite recipes? just curious =) thanks!!

How old are your kids? I love those pancakes too! :) I am trying to figure out a cheaper hosting service so I can keep the page up, seems so sad to me to delete it permanently…plus I’m sure I won’t be able to hold back posting something if it’s fabulous but I just can’t be a consistent blogger anymore :( *sigh*

Hi Jennifer…stopping by from the SITS tribe assignments. Glad to have found your blog, but sorry to hear that you are taking a break. I totally support that decision as I agree, family must come first. :) Blessings!

  7. Rachel Cotterill says:

This is such a shame! I love your blog and I’m really sad if you’ve encountered negativity that’s contributed to putting you off blogging. But of course, I completely understand that family always has to come first. Let me know if you ever decide to come back to it x

    • Jennifer says:

It’s less the negativity but more that I need to focus on my family and blogging takes up way too much precious time…when I get a spare minute I would rather exercise! lol I enjoy this, but I just can’t manage it right now…I will surely post a recipe here or there and keep in touch with all the wonderful people I’ve met, including yourself…I love your blog too =)

      Thanks Rachel!

      XOXO

I just started eating vegan a few months ago and your blog has been my favorite for recipes, etc. They are delicious and have made the transition easier. I’m very sorry to see you go. I’ve spent the morning busily printing out my favorite recipes of yours. Good luck. You’ll be missed.

    • Jennifer says:

      Hi Lansing,

Thanks for this comment! definitely print out some of your favorite recipes, but I am currently looking into a cheaper hosting service so i can at least leave it up for a while so people can still enjoy my recipes. =) Good luck on your vegan journey!

      XO

  9. Rachel says:

I just found your site and made a few recipes, including the mini quinoa-chickpea cakes…they were fantastic!!! Sorry to hear you go, especially when I just found you, but I understand! :)

Any favorites you suggest I print off?

    • Jennifer says:

      Hi Rachel,

I’m trying to keep the site up, would hate to see all my hard work go to waste since people really enjoy my recipes…I was feeling REALLY defeated when I write this post =( All of my soups are pretty awesome if you like soup…the Toasted Quinoa Mexican Soup is award-winning…it has several steps but is worth every bit of time…I love my new Cream of Mushroom Soup and my lentil soup is a big hit. Hmmmm, My Spaghetti Sqaush Cakes also won an award and served with the beans and slaw it’s a great meal…my biggest viewed post is my Broccoli Salad, Eggplant Fries, Baked Egglpant/Cashew Ricotta and Portobello Wellies…=) I absolutely LOVE my Chickpea Waldorf Salad…hmmmmm I can honestly say most recipes will be great ;) heehee

      XOXO

I just found your blog today, so I’m sorry to see that it’s going away! But I do understand why you’re leaving the blogosphere. I’ve noticed a lot of the same things, especially on Twitter, and there are definitely days when I don’t log on at all because I just don’t want to deal with it!

    • Jennifer says:

I know…it’s not for everyone for sure! =) Thanks for stopping by Martha and leaving a comment…I do have some great recipes on here for you to try…let me know if you do. =)

      Thanks so much!
      Jen
